Why it's so important to self promote

Self Promoting

As authors, it's not always easy to promote. Not only is it time consuming but it can cost a lot of money. Some authors like to hire PR's to help get their book out there. Some like to do it themselves.

When authors decide to do it themselves the subject of who you know and how effective you are become an issue. Sometimes knowing the right person is important when trying to get your name our there. If you are booking a book signing in New York, yet no one knows you, it can be hard to get people to show up.

Promoting yourself takes time and plenty of effort. Word of mouth always helps. So do flyers, banners, continuing you to stay in contact with people that you've met before. All of this is important. Another good option is to make book sales yourself.

What I mean by that is to create a book sale yourself. Come up with a discount for your book so that you and the consumer wins. Maybe a percentage off here or there if you by X amount of books. Get a free signed copy for showing up at a book signing. You can also do contests and giveaways on your website. All of this helps you promote your book. I see a lot of authors doing this to promote themselves.
