Do Writers know how to Ski?
All writers, authors, and urban professionals (UP) it is happening again this year and you need to be there!!! Whether you ski or not, the 7th Annual Urban Professionals Beginners Ski Trip is an event you should plan to attend! This trip will provide opportunities for you to network with other business owners, entrepreneurs, and professionals and gain exposure for your book, publishing company, or other industry profession.
UP is taking over Gatlinburg, Tennessee on January 22-24th. If you are looking for some out-of-the box networking experiences, this is where it is happening. The weekend includes: Two fun-filled nights at the Holiday Inn, welcome reception, open bar (all weekend!), 3 meals per day, a comedy show, 70’s themed party, ski lessons (for those who dare), pajama jam party, after 5 sit down banquet dinner (bring your suits and your cocktail dresses), a souvenir t-shirt, networking opportunities all weekend (people come from everywhere around the country), pool party, a farewell biz card exchange event, Spades tournament, singles meet/couples retreat event, and much, much more.
Attending an event like this is a direct way to broaden your audience and create publicity for your writing. People like to see, feel, and hear the writers they enjoy reading. This is an opportunity to give new readers and intimate look into your work. Most readers are faithful to their favorite authors. So while attending, meeting people, and having a good time, you are also building a long lasting relationship with a fan that will buy your future work because they feel like they “know” you.
Again, this is not your typical “networking” event. When you look outside of the norm and the traditional and see the opportunities to grow and develop a new audience who may not have known who you were before the event you have just created a new stream of income. For those of us who have experienced writer’s block at one point in time during our careers this is a good way to have something else to write about. Even if it is just the experience, blog writing and journals are a sure way to cure writer’s block.
So join Urban Professionals in Gatlinburg in January not only to have a good time but to reach an audience and allow yourselves to grow as an artists. Every year an author is featured. Maybe next year it could be you. Authors should bring books, cards, synopsis, poems, etc. Fun-filled business weekends are the new wave of networking. Let’s do business and take a trip. All aboard! Who’s coming with me this year?
